Hidden Voices: The Lives of LGBT Muslims

Free and Open to the Public

6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Ohio Room in the Hadley Union Building (HUB) on IUP Campus, Indiana, PA

This program highlights the many struggles and challenges facing sexual and gender minorities within the Muslim world and examines the complex intersection of religion, sexuality, and gender. The speaker, Faisal Alam, is a queer-identified Muslim activist, speaker, and writer of Pakistani descent who has traveled across the country and around the world to deliver his message. Using his own life experiences and exploring the complex history of the Islamic world, Faisal Alam sheds new light on the lives of an often invisible and silent community: Muslims who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and questioning.

In this video, Faisal Alam contributes to keynote discussion at Creating Change Conference for Queer Muslim Revolution. Within this conversation, Faisal includes many of the topics he will discuss at the October 10, 2011 Six O’Clock Series.

For more information about Faisal Alam and Hidden Voices, check out the website.

This program is co-sponsored by the GLBT Commission, the Office for International Education, Pride Alliance, and Religious Studies.
